EAW Works With Charlotte’s University City Church To Upgrade Sound Reinforcement System

Whitinsville, MA (September 2017) – University City Church (UCC), located in Charlotte, North Carolina, recently moved into a new location to accommodate their growing community. Fortunately for the organisation, the new venue was previously home to another church as well as an Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW) KF Series line array sound reinforcement system. The KF system in the main sanctuary was included in the purchase.

Before moving into the new location, the church leadership contacted Audio Video Concepts & Design (AVCD), located in Indian Trail, North Carolina, to consult on the existing system.

“We’ve had a long relationship with UCC, so when they purchased the new building, they contacted us to help them evaluate their options,” explains Allan Conner, House of Worship Director for AVCD. “The new congregation wanted more low-end coverage throughout the space. We were confident that minor additions to the KF System would provide them with the worship experience they envisioned.”

The church agreed with Conner, who then reached out to the EAW applications team to determine how to best use the existing components as well as what might be utilised to enhance the inherited system.

The original system was a left-centre-right system with each array made up of six KF730 line array boxes under two EAW SB730 subwoofers. It provided the high-quality audio the church wanted but not as much low end and they needed. Conner and the EAW team determined that an additional three SB1000 subs under the stage below each array and six JF80 loudspeakers along the lip of the stage for front fill would create the atmosphere they sought. The EAW team also suggested adding the UX8800 digital signal processor for additional processing and some more amplification to enrich the system.

“We dig deep into the needs of the ministry and take into consideration their budget and best product for the job,” concludes Conner. “They had a terrific system already hanging there. Once we beefed up the low end and the system recommissioned, everyone was extremely pleased.”
