The latest development phase of the Guiyang Olympic Sports Centre in Guizhou province, China, opened recently in the shape of a new 80,000 sqm indoor arena. With a seating capacity of 12,000 spectators, the venue was constructed to fill a gap in the region’s high-end sporting and cultural facilities and is equipped to host international-level sporting events and entertainment performances.
The grand opening of the venue saw it hosting the second AIBA World Cup Boxing event of the year, which took place across six days and featured more than 200 bouts. Where sporting venues often hire in rented audio equipment to meet the needs of individual events, the Guiyang venue benefits from a carefully designed professional sound system installed during its construction.
Responsibility for the design and installation of a premium audio system was given to experienced specialists Zhejiang Tongbo Vision Technology Co., Ltd., who installed CODA Audio to meet the brief.
Tongbo needed to provide a system which could fully meet the diverse audio requirements of the venue. The grand opening and World Cup Boxing event perfectly illustrated the challenges, with a need to meet the demand of live commentaries, background music reinforcement, and large-scale live performances.
A spokesperson for Tongbo commented: “The venue required the uniform delivery of audio to every seat with outstanding vocal clarity. The CODA system achieves this consistent sound pressure, even in a noisy and dynamic competition environment, ensuring ultra-clear vocal broadcast without noise interference.
“The arena now possesses a system which is fully adaptable to the needs of sports competitions, large-scale galas, and international performances. It features deep and pure low-frequency sound as well as delicate mid-to-high frequency sound, delivering high-fidelity audio for all types of on-site performances and ceremonies.”
Relying on its rich practical experience in delivering large-scale venue audio systems, Tongbo designed and installed a system based around CODA Audio point source and arrayable point source loudspeakers, specifically 48 CODA Audio APS (2 by 10-inch 3-way arrayable point source) and 24 HOPS12i-Pro (dual 12-inch 3-way high-output point source), supplemented by 4 G515 (single 15-inch 2-way). The system is powered by CODA Audio LINUS DSP amplification.
For the opening ceremony of the AIBA World Cup, the venue’s directorship had originally planned to bring in extra temporary sound reinforcement from other brands, but on hearing the installed CODA system on the eve of the event, they recognised its superior performance and cancelled the additional equipment without hesitation.
The Tongbo team gave full technical support for the duration of the ceremony, and the carefully optimised system performed flawlessly throughout.
The spokesperson continued: “Thanks to our meticulous installation and the premium quality of the CODA products, the new system offers the venue many practical benefits and significant cost savings. The permanently integrated CODA Audio system eliminates the repeated costs and cumbersome procedures of repeated equipment transportation, setting up, and commissioning for each separate large-scale event. It enables efficient and rapid delivery of regular international events, improving the overall efficiency of event preparation.”
David Webster, Global Head of Sales and Marketing for CODA Audio, added: “Tongbo continue to expertly deploy CODA Audio systems for a wide variety of prestigious installations across China to maximum effect. We’re very proud to see our products installed at venues which feature such high-profile national and international events.”
