The Lighterman, a new pub, dining room and bar on Granary Square in London’s Kings Cross offers relaxed all day dining and drinking, with stunning views over the square as well as Regent’s Canal. To capture the mood of the day and to create a vibrant evening atmosphere, the venue has installed a high quality Bose sound system, with discreet Bose FreeSpace 3 cube speakers offering music over all three floors.
From the Canalside Bar situated directly on the towpath of the canal, to the bustling ground floor with its views of Granary Square, and the first floor with its wraparound terrace offering panoramic views, The Lighterman has already become a magnet for local residents looking for a leisurely lunch, for the after work brigade wanting to share a drink, and for tourists enjoying the spectacular choreographed water fountains in the square.
With music being a key factor in the overall customer experience, the system was installed by Bose Pro Partner Tateside to offer managers on each of the floors overall control of the source music and volume. There are four iPads, each loaded with the Bose ControlSpace Remote app, which is designed specifically to give intuitive wireless control across multiple devices to end users wherever networked Bose system electronics are installed. At The Lighterman, a Bose ControlSpace ESP-1240 processor delivers audio via ESPLink to two Bose PowerMatch amplifiers to provide a 12-zone music experience via Bose FreeSpace 3 cubes and subs on each floor. All zones can be controlled using the iPad app, and there is a fixed CC-16 wall mounted zone controller on each floor. Tateside were able to use CSR Builder to personalise the app for The Lighterman, creating a custom layout, and inserting images and branding. The app can be used to adjust volume levels and mute the system, select music source, set tone EQ and recall parameter sets.
Director of The Lighterman, Barry Hirst commented about the overall hospitality experience and that music is “intergral” in relation to the customer’s enjoyment. Barry continued by stating that it is fundamental that the sound is crisp and clean, and that it is easy to use from an operational perspective, which Bose delivers in abundance.
Open House London Group ICT Manager, Tim king also commented: “As part of the planning for The Lighterman bar and Restaurant project in Kings Cross, we discussed options for audio with Tateside. They recommended that we go ahead with a BOSE ControlSpace setup and utilise the functions on the iPad app for everyday control. This app has revolutionised how the music setup works for us. It allows us to control the overall ambience and customer experience with ease and on the fly, quickly adjusting the setup according to the vibe in the venue.”
The ControlSpace Remote app is available as a free download for mobile phones and tablets on both the Apple and Android platforms, and a new feature is a revamped user interface and support for both Apple OSX and Windows PC-based clients. Based on direct feedback from end users and integrators, ControlSpace Remote now offers an Admin tool for both Apple and Windows machines, allowing facility owners and managers to self-distribute the app to staff devices.
Trevor Donarski, CS Product Manager for Bose Professional concluded with the following: “Audio systems can be complex but the end-user control should not be. ControlSpace Remote is a good control solution for integrators and offers an easy-to-use end-user experience.”
