Open since 1994 and located in the Raval neighbourhood, The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) is a multidisciplinary cultural centre that strives to explore the big issues facing contemporary society through a richly curated programme of exhibitions, lectures, literary meetings, audiovisual screenings and film festivals, along with a mediation service that promotes education, research, and creative projects.
Little more than a year after upgrading the sound in its ‘Hall’ events space with a new NEXO GEO M10 system, CCCB has made a similar investment in its ‘Theatre’, a flexible, 400 sq m space accommodating a variety of activities including film screenings, concerts, conferences and performance art.
Once again, the contract to supply and install the system was awarded to Barcelona-based event technology specialists Imesde, with Audio Engineer and Project Manager Marc Parareda takes up the story.
“Alongside compatibility with the system already installed in the Hall, the customer wanted a system that could be moved across the room to provide optimal coverage for the many different stage and audience configurations possible in the theatre,” said Parareda.
“GEO M10 with MSUB15s offered a great solution as they are light enough to enable a system design that can be moved in front of the stage, or at the back of the venue if the stage is removed.
“Response and coverage are good, and the venue can add L20 subs from the Hall to increase the LF coverage when required.”
The full system at the CCCB Theatre comprises left and right hangs of six GEO M10 line array boxes beneath a pair of MSUB15s, with four of NEXO’s compact ID24s used for front fills and four NEXO P10s available for stage monitoring.
Amplification and processing for the full system come from NEXO’s NXAMPMk2 Powered TD Controllers equipped with Dante network cards.
Spanish NEXO distributor Soundmeans assisted with system design and performance predictions using NEXO’s NS-1 system configuration software, and also supported final system tuning and commissioning.
“The system offers great coverage throughout the whole venue in all its various configurations,” stated Parareda. “The customer is happy as now they have a system that adapts to all their requirements.”
