M Suite is a Karaoke Television (KTV) entertainment venue in Ho Chi Minh City designed around private karaoke experiences for groups of different sizes.
Its new location features a range of Small, Medium, Large and Signature Rooms, creating distinct entertainment environments that progress from more intimate karaoke settings to a larger premium performance space.
With music and vocal performance at the center of the guest experience, the audio system needed to deliver the clarity, output and low-frequency impact expected from karaoke while adapting to the different scale and layout of each room.
Rather than repeating the same loudspeaker configuration throughout the venue, M Suite worked with distributor Phuc Giang PGI to develop JBL Professional systems tailored to each room type.
JBL Professional EON700 Series systems served the Small, Medium and Large Rooms, while the larger Signature Room stepped up to the PRX Series to meet its increased performance requirements.
“The new M Suite location was looking to elevate its karaoke experience with a more powerful and engaging sound system,” said Mr. An, M Suite Project Manager.
“After evaluating solutions from several brands and receiving consultation from the PGI team, M Suite selected JBL Professional for its dynamic sound performance, vocal clarity and ability to deliver an immersive karaoke experience.”
Designing for karaoke required PGI to balance two equally important parts of the experience: the impact of music playback and the clarity of the person singing.
As room dimensions increased, maintaining that balance also required sufficient output, even coverage and controlled low-frequency reinforcement throughout the listening area.
Those requirements shaped how PGI configured the JBL Professional system in each of M Suite’s four room types.
In M Suite’s Small Rooms, two JBL Professional EON712 powered loudspeakers were paired with a single EON718S powered subwoofer.
The compact configuration provided the primary coverage and dedicated low-frequency reinforcement required for the smaller karaoke environment without adding more loudspeakers than the room required.
As the room dimensions increased, PGI expanded the system accordingly. Medium Rooms paired two EON712 loudspeakers with two EON710 powered loudspeakers positioned to extend coverage toward the rear of the room.
A single EON718S subwoofer provided low-frequency reinforcement. The additional rear coverage allowed the system to address the longer room layout while maintaining the same EON700 Series platform used in the smaller spaces.
The Large Rooms required another increase in scale. Six EON712 loudspeakers provided the additional output and coverage required across the larger listening area, while two EON718S subwoofers increased low-frequency capability for music playback and karaoke.
Rather than changing the underlying loudspeaker platform, the design scaled the quantity and subwoofer reinforcement to suit the increased demands of the room.
The Signature Room represented the largest step in the system design. PGI selected six JBL Professional PRX915 powered loudspeakers in a surround configuration, supported by four PRX918XLF powered subwoofers, with a Soundcraft mixer providing mixing for the room’s audio system.
The move to the PRX Series gave the Signature Room a system scaled specifically for its larger environment while retaining the active-loudspeaker approach used throughout the project.
This progression from EON700 to PRX Series systems allowed PGI to address the acoustic and performance requirements of each space without overbuilding smaller rooms or limiting the larger ones.
The active architecture also kept amplification integrated within the loudspeaker systems, giving PGI a common deployment approach across configurations that ranged from two full-range loudspeakers and one subwoofer to the larger surround system in the Signature Room.
According to Mr. Khang of PGI Pro Audio’s Product Division, the installation represented the company’s first use of JBL Professional active loudspeaker systems for a KTV project.
For PGI, the project provided an opportunity to apply the scalability of the EON700 and PRX Series to an entertainment format where room dimensions and expected performance can vary considerably within a single venue.
“KTV is an important entertainment market across Asia, where the audio system plays a central role in the guest experience,” said Nick Screen, Vice President and General Manager, HARMAN Professional Solutions, APAC.
“At M Suite, PGI scaled the JBL Professional system according to the requirements of each room, from compact EON700 Series configurations to the larger PRX Series system in the Signature Room. That approach provided the vocal clarity, coverage, output and low-frequency performance needed across the venue’s different karaoke environments.”
With the installation complete, M Suite’s audio systems now scale alongside the experiences offered throughout the venue. Smaller rooms use compact EON700 Series configurations, additional loudspeakers extend coverage as room dimensions increase, and the Signature Room uses a higher-output PRX Series system for its larger performance environment.
The result gives M Suite a consistent JBL Professional loudspeaker platform while tailoring the sound system to how each room is used.
