As part of Egypt’s continued commitment to honouring Islamic heritage and enhancing spiritual infrastructure, three major mosques across Cairo – Al-Sayyida Nafisa, Osama Ben Zaid and Al-Ali Al-Azeem – have received state-of-the-art audio upgrades powered by JBL Professional and Crown.

Each project, integrated by leading partner Audio Technology, reflects a tailored approach to acoustics in sacred environments, uniting high-performance sound with architectural reverence to ensure sermons, recitations and prayers reach every corner with clarity and balance.

Al-Ali Al-Azeem Mosque, Almaza
Recently inaugurated during Ramadan by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Al-Ali Al-Azeem Mosque in Almaza, Heliopolis, represents one of the most ambitious house-of-worship projects in the region.

Spanning 8,100 sq m and accommodating up to 5,000 worshippers across three floors, the mosque also houses a library, clinic, nursery, and classrooms, making consistent audio coverage a complex challenge.

“Given the size and function of the space, the key challenge was ensuring consistent sound coverage across a large interior volume with varied architectural and acoustic demands,” said Mario G. Abadeer, Design and Presales Division Head at Audio Technology.

“The JBL CBT line array column speakers gave us the power, precision and aesthetic discretion needed for a religious venue of this scale.”

At the core of the design, Audio Technology installed JBL CBT 1000 loudspeakers with Constant Beamwidth Technology, offering precise vertical coverage and wide horizontal dispersion across large prayer halls.

In outdoor courtyards, JBL AWC all-weather speakers ensure clear and natural sound for public gatherings and broadcast content. Visually discreet and acoustically powerful, the full system delivers clarity and intimacy throughout the mosque’s expansive indoor and outdoor spaces. With the integrated HARMAN system in place, all worshippers can now experience sermons and recitations with clarity and intimacy, regardless of their location within the building.

Al-Sayyida Nafisa Mosque, Old Cairo
One of Egypt’s most spiritually revered landmarks, the Al-Sayyida Nafisa Mosque, underwent a major renovation as part of the national initiative to restore Ahl Al-Bayt heritage sites.

Formally inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the historic mosque now benefits from an upgraded audio system designed to preserve visual serenity while solving complex acoustic challenges.

Audio Technology deployed JBL CBT 70J-1 column array loudspeakers in the main prayer halls, supported by JBL CBT 50LA-1 monitors for Imams and CBT 70J-1 speakers in the women’s prayer hall. These discreet yet powerful systems deliver articulate speech reinforcement and even vertical coverage.

For the mosque’s outdoor spaces, JBL AWC159 and AWC62 all-weather loudspeakers offer durable, full-range audio built to withstand Cairo’s climate while maintaining intelligibility. The complete solution, powered by Crown amplifiers, provides consistent and clear coverage for daily prayers and special events without compromising the mosque’s historic character.

Osama Ben Zaid Mosque, New Cairo
Serving the growing community in New Cairo, the Osama Ben Zaid Mosque required a multi-zone solution that could handle varying acoustic conditions while preserving the dignity of the space.

Audio Technology answered with a JBL Professional system featuring CBT 70J and CBT 100LA-1 loudspeakers in the main sanctuary, delivering broad horizontal dispersion and consistent tonality.

JBL CBT 50LA-1 speakers were installed in the women’s prayer hall to provide dedicated coverage while ensuring sonic separation from the main hall. Outside, JBL AWC159 loudspeakers support overflow gatherings and season

al events, offering a warm and intelligible alternative to conventional horn systems. Powered by Crown XLi and CDi Series amplifiers, the system ensures operational ease and reliable performance for mosque staff and clergy.

“The goal for this project was to create a sound environment that reflects the dignity of the space,” said Mario Abadeer.

“With the JBL CBT and AWC speakers, we achieved intelligibility and coverage across every prayer area, both indoors and outdoors, without disrupting the mosque’s architectural harmony.” Since installation, worshippers have experienced greater comfort and connection during services, thanks to even SPL and high speech clarity across all zones.

Unified vision for spiritual clarity
Though unique in size, location and function, all three mosque projects share a unified vision: delivering reverent, high-fidelity audio that enhances the worship experience. From historic preservation to large-scale modern design, Audio Technology’s integration of JBL Professional loudspeakers and Crown amplifiers reflects a thoughtful balance of tradition and innovation.
