Giant transparent INFiLED screen takes pole position at Circuit Paul Ricard

Guests arriving at the iconic Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France, are now greeted by an eye-catching architectural centrepiece: a sweeping transparent LED display stretching 15 metres across the façade of the venue’s main entrance.

A fully bespoke solution designed and customised by INFiLED and installed in close collaboration with leading French integrator ND Tech Med, the large-scale installation is among the biggest transparent LED screens in Europe.

Broadcasting live race coverage, interviews and sponsor messaging, the large display is a custom solution tailored specifically by INFiLED to the demanding technical, aesthetic and structural requirements of the historic racetrack.

The long-time home of Le Mans and Formula 1 racing in France, as well as numerous other motorsports, cycling and running events, Circuit Paul Ricard is an icon of French motorsport.

For the project, INFiLED designed a total of 96 transparent LED panels, with three unique panels fitted precisely across each of the circuit’s 32 glass canopy windows to within millimetre tolerances, requiring meticulous design and engineering to achieve overall visual uniformity. The complete screen measures 15m wide by 5.4m high, delivering a surface area of 81 square metres.

To maximise visibility and clarity for a moving crowd, the tailor-made display employs a horizontal pixel pitch of 4mm and a vertical pixel pitch of 8mm, optimised for legibility from various distances and angles without compromising the screen’s transparency.

One of the key design challenges was finding the right balance between light transmission and screen intensity: too transparent and the image would be washed out; too opaque and the installation would lose its architectural impact.

Equally complex were the structural challenges. Despite the lightweight nature of INFiLED’s transparent LED solutions, a screen of this size still presents a significant load.

INFiLED and ND Tech Med engineered a custom fixing system to ensure long-term stability while accommodating thermal expansion, preventing any risk of stress or damage to the glass canopy below. The mounting solution also ensures rapid maintenance access – a critical factor for a high-traffic, event-driven environment where continuous uptime is paramount.

The design and development process for the ambitious install included a fact-finding visit to INFiLED’s Barcelona showroom, followed by three on-site demos at the Circuit Paul Ricard itself to test and refine the bespoke concept under real-world conditions.

“Circuit Paul Ricard’s new LED screen isn’t just a warm, bold, dynamic welcome – it’s an architectural statement. It’s also a vision that we were honoured to help bring to life,” said Mathieu Arnould, Country Sales Manager of France for INFiLED.

“For us, no aim is too complex or too wacky. We custom-built every element exclusively for this project, because for over 16 years and with more than 200 patents, we can adapt to any space or ambition. If you’ve got a big, impossible plan, we’re all ears.”
