51 Degrees

July / August 2008

Port of Spain

Since first opening its doors in March 2005, 51 Degrees, has found success as a laid back lounge with a pretty impressive A-list of regulars.

And not just those with a Trini connection like International Soca artiste Machel Montano, cricketer Brian Lara, or football star Dwight Yorke. It is also, so we’re informed, the hang-out of choice for international celebrities: Mick Jagger, Rihanna, Damian Marley, Vince Neil and Shea Leboeuf being among the big names who turn up whenever they are in town.

“The secret to our success is simple,” explains Manager Peter Rowe. “We believe in different ideas and innovative concepts, creating an ‘out of the box’ experience for our customers. We maintain current trends in the night club industry and always attempt to keep our competitors guessing what’s next.”

The latest upgrade included Chauvet LEDs as wash and cove lighting with Martin Mini MACs and MAC 250s giving the main room its lighting punch. The Martin moving heads, hung from two parallel lines of waved truss, can be used for both dance lighting and effects for performers on stage.

Acts range from local comedians like Rachel Price (Trini Queen of Comedy) to international stars from Comedy Central and VH1 as well as live music.

“51 Degrees is also the most popular location to ‘see or be seen’ as many of our top local artistes and personalities frequent us to relax and have a good time,” concludes Rowe. “We keep reinventing ourselves, but we always keep it familiar for our loyal patrons and customers who call 51 Degrees their entertainment venue of choice.”
