VERTIGO

September / October 2008

Zurich

The Vertigo club stands in the bustling city of old Zurich on the former site of the Academy cinema. Recently renovated, it manages to balance modern chic with architectural charm.

The interior is quite unique: firstly in its colour, the furnishings are predominately white; secondly the seating area rises in an upward spiral around a central area which doubles up as the dance floor. The seating itself ranges from beds to landscape seats to chaise longues.

The 700m2 venue is open from late afternoon - when guests can join friends for an aperitif - until late in the evening when the club serves its diners with quality four-course meals. On Friday and Saturday night it becomes a trendy lounge club complete with famous DJs playing into the early hours.

Limmatronic AG carried out the recent re-install at Vertigo, chosing product from the SGM range to update the clubs lighting system. There are fluorescent neon tubes running around the false ceilings, the bar counter and the base of the couches and as night falls, the bright white interior is coloured by the fixtures installed in the large circular panel on the ceiling, the hub of the large helix. The light rig includes three Giotto Spot 400s, fitted with special gobos, and two SGM Genio Mobile LED colour changers.

The colour wash is transformed in synchronisation with the music. Suggestive designs and powerful multi-coloured effects from the Giotto Spot 400 and the Genio Mobile, beam onto the white surface below. Clubbers looking down from the spiral balcony will see a central zone with surreal opalescent atmospheres created.

Directors Branko Gabriel and Antonio Nocira were very excited about the opening of Vertigo. The duo organised a pre-opening party on 4th September followed soon after by the ‘Sun of a Beach’ event - referred to as a ‘highlight for this summer’. The event in previous years has been held in Miami, Dubai and Ibiza, so Gabriel and Nocira are delighted that club Vertigo Zurich will host the 2008 edition.
