Ratchada Theatre
November / December 2008
Location: Bangkok, Thailand
Company: Robert Juliat
The 2000-seat Ratchada Grand Theatre in Bangkok, Thailand plays host to one of the largest stage productions in the world, Siam Niramit, Siam Dreams. This spectacular show celebrates Thai art and cultural heritage. Recently cited in the Guinness Book of Records as having the tallest proscenium arch at 11.95m, the venue was in need of some lighting fixtures with a reputation of similar stature.
Project Lighting Designer Poon Limpapun chose French lantern manufacturers, Robert Juliat (RJ) for the lighting re-design.
“The Robert Juliat 700SX range really fits our criteria,” explains Limpapun. “With throwing distances from our front electrics bars of over 30m, the 2000W Profiles do their job very well.” The lighting scheme consists of more than 100 RJ 700SX 2kW and RJ 600SX 1kW profiles with full accessories, complemented by as many RJ 1kW High Performance 310HPC fixtures, providing both general and specific illumination from on-stage and front of house positions. A pair of DMX controlled RJ Aramis 2500W follow spots are employed as front of house spots and another pair of RJ Korrigan 1200W DMX follow spots are used for side spots.
