SLIVER

September / October 2008

Jonkoping

The old movie theatre in the Swedish town of Jonkoping was recently reborn as Sliver - a 700 capacity club which, together with  neighbouring club Harrys, draw guests from across the region.
The main goal of the installer Totalljud, was to create a discrete, yet chic atmosphere. “LED lighting was the first option that came to my mind,” says Tomas Luthman, CEO of Totalljud. He continues, “JB Systems offers a nice range of LEDs and discrete projectors, that integrate perfectly with the atmosphere of this old movie complex.”

The club has three bars, a main dance floor, and is surrounded by  decorational angel sculptures.

The main LED installation can be found in the three bars. JB Systems LEDstrips in different lengths create subtle colour changes throughout the whole space. The LEDstrips light up the ceiling and walls of the bar, while JB Systems MLS-50 and MLS-20 are integrated in the bar itself, discretely hidden behind a transparent cover. The light output of the LEDstrips is strong enough, so no other light source is needed. “The owner of Sliver is very happy that energy costs are strongly reduced thanks to these LEDstrips,” Luthman adds.

The impressive stairs use flexible JB Systems Ropelight, not only for decorate, but also to guarantee the safety of visitors. The the angel sculptures in the art gallery, use JB Systems LP 8115 LED projectors for discrete colour changing.

The entrance is very impressive with it’s unique ceiling decoration of angels and the use of LEDstrips accentuate the angel sky. The outside also is illuminated by LED projectors. Two of the powerful Briteq LED Powerbanks focus on the outside of the building, changing colours continuously.

No less than 200m of LEDstrips, 60m of LED Ropelight and 15 LED projectors are used in this venue. “The nice thing about this range, is that it is completely compatible. We use a total of two controllers (DMX creator software) for the whole installation, including the dance floor with 16 Briteq Moving Heads. A total of about 300 individual lighting fixtures inside and outside, controlled by only two controllers: it’s a blessing for the technicians at Sliver,” concludes Luthman.
