Showtech
Berlin, 16-18 June 2009
On the 16-18 June the Messe Berlin held the biannual edition of
the Showtech tradeshow. The three day event was host to 350
exhibitors from 23 different countries. The 7,815 visitors (up 6
percent from the previous event), who travelled from 40 different countries, came to witness the latest innovations from stage, lighting and event technology.
Managing Director of Showtech
organiser, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, Hans-Joachim
Erbel, said that this year, “Showtech further consolidated its
position as the internationally leading meeting place for the
industries it serves. Against the general economic background this
is a clear signal.”
A&O Technology began exhibiting at Showtech in 1995 and have
done so ever since. This year they launched their new fixture,
Falcon CMY LED-Video, which has evolved from the established
Falcon 600. The new searchlight attracted a lot of attention.
ADB showcased a number of exciting products including the
latest versions of the award winning WARP, the MENTOR and
MENTOR XT, as well as the new DOMINO control desk range.
Other new products featured on the stand were the EURODIM
TWIN TECH, the MIKAPACK, and the brand new ALC4 (the
innovative Modular LED RGB+W Cyclorama Lighting fixture).
Lightpower is one of the largest German distributors, they
represent brands such as: Aryton; Barco; DTS; Clay Paky;
Eurotruss; Pulsar; Robert Juliat, Vari-lite; MA Lighting; GDS; and
Wireless Solutions. Claus Spreyer, Head of Partner Relationship
Management assisted on the stand along with respresentatives
from the various brands. MD Ralph-Jörg Wezorke said: “As a
tradeshow, Showtech offers a meeting place for people and
views for which the Internet as a means of communication is
no subsitute. The visitors, most of whom came from our target
groups theatre, event venues and television companies, were
outstanding in their purchasing quality and competence.”
Amongst the highlights were MA Lighting’s new grandMA2
console, they are also currently working on some new software
for it, which they hope will be ready to launch at PLASA. Clay
Paky showcased their latest innovations from the Alpha range,
while Robert Juliat had a selection of their followspots available for
the visitors to sample. PRG Regional Sales Manager, Alia Ayoubi,
was representing Vari-Lite (as PRG Distribution supports and
distributes the brand in Europe), she was on hand to answers any
questions from interested visitors.
Wireless Solution EMEA Sales Manager, Lotta Schiefer, said: “The
economic downturn does have its advantages for a company
such as Wireless because people start to look at costing. They
can makes cut back on cables and trussing and replace them with
wireless solutions instead.” She continued, “Business is going
well for us at the moment and Lightpower is providing a good
distribution network in Germany.”
Celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, Stenigke had a
prominent stand scattered with products from their different
brands, including, alutruss, Futurelight, eurolite and Omnilux.
Think-Abele CEO, Andrew Abele, was looking after their stand. They were showing a wide array of products including the 3D Space Navigator, the Movecat PLUS-C, and the new touring racks. Abele said: “It’s not been quite as busy as I hoped but the visitors I have spoken to have been of good quality.”
coolux had a positive show, continuing to highlight their latest
software package that they showcased at PL+S, and which they
are continually developing. Their recently formed partnership with
publitec is also going well and is proving to be a successful decision.
GLP highlighted their latest product, the Impression Laser, which is
based on new laser technology that allows the integration of four
laser sources to be housed in a moving head enclosure.
LTH is the exclusive German distributor for LDR, they also
distribute Global Truss, City Theatrical, ETC and ARRI. Amongst
their stand highlights were the new Global Truss Baby Tower, RGB
Kapego Wireless Controller and City Theatrical AutoYoke.
Robe showcased the latest ROBIN 300 Plasma Spot, alongside
the new Digital Series range and the flagship AT Series. An ideal
fixture for the TV and theatre markets, ColorWash 750 AT
Tungsten, also attracted a lot of attention. International Business
Development Manager Harry von den Stemmen said: “Robe
debuted at Showtech in 2003. Then and for the next two shows
in 2005 and 2007, the brand was represented by its German
distributor, LMP. This time, with a growing demand for digital
projection, digital lighting and massive public interest in the
revolutionary ROBIN series, it was a must for Robe to show its
products in a dedicated space.”
Third time exhibitors MBN said that although people can’t really
compare Showtech on the same level as it’s Frankfurt companion,
PL+S, it is still a very positive show with good quality visitors. They
felt the show organisers had worked harder on presentation this
year, which played a part in bringing in visitors from further afield.
Head of Sales & Engineering at Bühnentechnik Rexroth Bosch
Group, Volker Kirsch said: “For us the course of the tradeshow
was characterised by a large number of intensive and positive
discussions with potential customers. The crisis is not really an
issue at Showtech. People are looking quite hopefully towards the
future. We will certainly come back.“
New at Showtech was Event 3, a networking platform that allows
providers of event technology and event services to show their
latest products and solutions. Also new was stb international, an
accompaniment where visitors could locate exhibitors from the
segments of congress, conference hotels and event organisation.
Showtech will return on 7-9 June 2011 in Berlin.
