Teclumen
July / August 2008
There can't be many companies in our industry that boast a swimming pool on the roof of their headquarters, but then Teclumen is slightly different to your regular lighting manufacturer.
Not only is it a successful player in the fields of theatre and architectural lighting, but also a manufacturer of swimming pool and fountain and garden lighting.Whilst the pool has a practical purpose as a means to demonstrate Teclumen’s specialist lighting, its rooftop location - overlooking the lush maize fields of covering the Castel Goffredo countryside - proves the perfect place to catch up with General Manager Cason Gilberto.
When Gilberto founded Teclumen in 1978 he was still working at Coemar just down the road. Teclumen began as an assembly facility for standard lighting projectors, but it wasn’t long before the company began to diversify, taking on the Italian distributorships for some of the best respected brands in the lighting world – a role it continues to hold for brands like Strand Lighting, LITEC, Sunlite, LitePuter, GE, Philips and Osram.
The experience gained during these early years as both manufacturer and distributor encouraged Gilberto to create his own set of products and in 1990 the company began manufacturing theatre fixtures under its own Teclumen brand name. It proved a successful strand and provided a solid foundation on which to expand into other markets. Including stage show lighting, architectural lighting, exhibition lighting and creative swimming pool and fountain lighting.
In 2003 Teclumen opened new headquarters which united product design, assembly, sales offices and after-sales servicing in one location.
The effectiveness of production and sales has allowed the company to become an important player in the international lighting sector, with an even 50-50 split of domestic and international sales.
It is Teclumen’s organization and teamwork that, Gilberto says, enables it to develop products that satisfy the demands of the market - always taking care to make quality a priority from the very start of the production process.
The main phases of the production and manufacturing process take place within the company, using components from world-leaders such as Philips and Lumileds, in order to guarantee a high quality finished product. Production is fast and flexible thanks to high-tech laser cutting, bending and welding machinery. All metal component production is carried out by a sister facility just down that road managed by Gilberto’s twin brother Cason Rinaldo.
Teclumen also has a well structured and functional warehouse with a wide stock of products, allowing the team to quickly deliver to customers all over the world.
“We are very proud about our continuously evolving worldwide sales network, that appreciate and believe in our ‘Made in Italy’ products,” says Gilberto.
“Teclumen owes its success to a dynamic team of sales people and technicians who work in perfect harmony and assist the customers from the beginning to the end in order to satisfy their expectations.”
And what of Teclumen’s future plans? “Every day we think about our future,” Gilberto continues. “Step by step, we are working on innovations and on improvements to our products, considering energy saving alternatives, new design and professionalism. There is an Italian proverb: ‘Chi va piano, va sano e va lontano’ - translation: slow and steady wins the race. This is our motto!”
