15 years at the laser's edge
It was a passion for innovation that spurred Siegmund Ruff to establish LPS-Lasersysteme back in March 1993. With several years of experience he had a clear idea of what the industry really needed and decided to strike out on his own.
Initially a one-man show, LPS’s innovative laser products proved popular in its native Germany and Ruff quickly built up a small team to meet demand. Today, 15 years later, LPS HQ is home to a core of nine employees who, along with a worldwide network of 36 freelancers, deliver top quality laser show equipment to a global clientele.
LPS-Lasersysteme’s history is a familiar story of gradual growth. Exposure at trade shows like Prolight Sound in Frankfurt resulted in LPS’s first export sales to Greece, France, Switzerland and the Czech Republic in 1996 and as their reputation grew, internet enquiries started to trickle in from across Asia – leads which came to fruition in 1998.
Sales in South America were achieved the following year and by 2002 customer demand precipitated a move to a new 2,000m2 facility containing not just offices, production facilities and stock storage space, but a substantial showroom in which to demo their latest gear.
Over the years, the company has earned a reputation for their innovative laser show systems tailored to customer needs. With the emergence of air-cooled lasers, for example, LPS spent a full year investing in a series of products that utilised the new technology. Landmark products have included the LPS-StarLite, a high-performance RGB laser ideally suited to smaller club installs, and the LPS-Bax, designed for larger-scale laser displays in both live and permanent install applications.
Ruff is particularly proud of LPS’s ability to provide customers with comprehensive soft- and hardware laser solutions. In 2007 the company brought out LPS-RealCAD Pro - an easy to use software allowing users to program complex animation shows using up to six graphic projectors.
Most importantly, systems are always accompanied by training to ensure users get the most out of the software provided, as well as ensure all safety regulations are understood and followed.
LPS-Lasersysteme’s wide scope of experience includes entertainment centres, rental companies and other laser show sellers worldwide. Clients have included such major international brands as Siemens, Daimler Benz, Endemol and Philips. Ruff attributes the company’s success to their global way of thinking, intensive customer advisory service, their use of modern technologies and relentless drive towards innovation.
“We are always striving to make our systems better and better, packing them with new features so that we can continue to keep our customers satisfied,” he says.
